Three Dimentional Topography (Work in progress): III

For some reason I am more drawn to the images taken from my phone. It gives off a more intimate feeling. Could be an indication of what a novice I am with a SLR.

Instead of doing one large poster, I decided to do several individual images. Sort of reminiscent of sequential art, I hope it gives of the impression of "flickering" thoughts, repetitive and fleeting. Now I'm thinking of having one row of image instead of two (Ha, to force the viewer to work harder to view the entire piece.) This was a pain to set up, by the way.

More shots, now at a higher resolution. Played around with the lighting just a bit but I still might have to do some level adjustments.

After thinking about it, I wonder what it would look like with more text.

What I have so for in terms of what I want my text to say. Just balsa wood, glue, and my desk lamp. I am still trying to decide whether to incorporate an object into the image or not. I'm digging the effect of the shadows right now.

An interesting look on the history of shadow in art from an article in Cabinet Magazine. It mostly discusses shadows in relation to the human form but I find that the metaphors and meaning behind shadows in art still relevant. Evil, ignorance, the soul, memory, early photography, etc.

I finally decided I wanted to use shadows in my project so that I may deal with concerns over memory (possibly dementia???). I looked at a few artist who use this medium and though their work is more elaborate than what I may end up doing (they're all so amazing!),  I find it helpful to try to understand their light placement, why they use the materials they use, and how it relates to their subject matter. Now I need to find out what materials to use.
